Wynberg, Cape Town
Darun Na'im Montessori School offers children a warm, prepared environment to explore, questions and grow - honouring the child's fitrah through Montessori principles and an education deeply rooted in Islamic values, right here in Wynberg, Cape Town.
Our Pathways
Environments are prepared with intention, giving children the freedom to explore, choose and learn, while supporting independence, purposeful living and a deep connection to the Qur'an and Sunnah.
The child is engaged in the great work of adapting to their time and place, and to the culture of their people and community, absorbing and using everything around them to construct their character and personality. Guided by their fitrah and innate powers, the child takes an increasingly conscious role in their own development within an intentionally and thoughtfully prepared environment that calls them to immerse themselves fully; mind, heart, body and soul.
The mixed-age community supports social-emotional development, learning from others and healthy motivation. Through rich experiences, careful observation and purposeful guidance, children develop independence and an awareness of interdependence, preparing them to contribute positively to society and serve Allah by being of benefit to others.
The child has entered a new stage of intellectual and social development, increasingly curious about how the universe works, where they fit within Allah's creation, and how they can contribute to the world around them. With their growing powers of reason and imagination, the child moves into deeper, more independent research and project-based work, exploring big ideas across Islamic sciences, geometry, biology, history and language, with the adult guiding rather than directly teaching.
Their learning is grounded in the Qur'an and Sunnah and nurtured through an understanding of Allah's creation, encouraging them to discover the interconnectedness of knowledge rather than viewing subjects in isolation.

Our Story
Twenty two years ago, our story began simply, with a thought and a conversation.
That conversation became a hope, and that hope became a dream: to create a place where children could learn and grow in an environment in which they were trusted, respected and given the freedom to discover, while being nurtured through the values of Islam and the remembrance of Allah.
Then the work began, and people came alongside us. Family, friends, neighbours and members of the community offered their hands, their time and their support. What began as a thought and a conversation slowly became something real.
Over the years, Darun-Na'im Montessori School has grown and changed, but the heart of what we set out to do remains. Today, situated in Wynberg, Cape Town, we continue to carefully and purposefully prepare environments where hands-on learning, independence and respect for each child's individual pace are part of everyday life. Intentional conversations, Islamic values and the remembrance of Allah are woven into the child's experience as they explore and make sense of the world around them.
We, too, continue to evolve, shaped by what we have learnt along the way while remaining true to the hopes that first set us on this journey. And today, something else is beginning to happen. We are passing the baton.
We have come to understand that this work was never meant to be carried by a few people alone. It needs another generation of teachers, guides and young people who are willing to learn, contribute and, in time, carry the work forward.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of our story is seeing this already beginning to unfold. Young people who once learnt within our environments are now returning to work alongside us, contributing to the school and its growing projects. Some are taking their own steps into Montessori education, preparing themselves to become part of the next generation who will carry this work forward.
Children who were once part of the story are now helping to write its next chapter.
Our story began with a thought and a conversation.
And it is still being written.
Carefully and purposefully prepared environments where hands-on learning, independence and respect for each child's individual pace are part of everyday life.
Islamic values and the remembrance of Allah are woven into the child's experience as they explore and make sense of the world around them.
Built and supported by family, friends, neighbours and a wider community — and now, as we pass the baton, former students are returning to contribute, bringing new energy and helping to write the next chapter.
